The latest Hospitality carpet collection by Desso is called Chorsu Square and presents colorful, ikat inspired designs. Chorsu Square is a collection of contemporary designs offering bold and colorful patterns, which are not only applicable to many fashion runways this season but also bring a new and vibrant energy to hospitality interiors. The collection was created by USA based senior designer Nicole Bennett.
Chorsu Square in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) is where the Eski Juva market is located. Eski Juva Bazaar is the biggest and oldest oriental bazaar in Central Asia and has served as a trading post on nearly the same spot for over 2000 years. It’s located on the Great Silk Road from China to Europe, as a crossroad (‘chorsu’) of eastward, westward, southward and northward caravan routes, used for carrying goods into and out of Tashkent.
At Eski Juvar Bazaar you will find colorful and aromatic spices, fruit and local delicacies, but the workshops with fabrics, tapestries and carpets indicate that this is above all the very heart of the Silk Road. Chinese silk was reaching Rome even before the year dot. The lively bustle with loud voices and bright colors can be recognized in the typical traditional fabrics that were the inspiration for this Axminster carpet collection.
Nicole Bennett, designer of the new collection, says: “My newest collection, Chorsu Square, is all about capturing the eclectic outcome where old meets new. It’s about the crossroads where the rough meets the smooth. It’s where rich silks are coupled with boldly patterned cottons, clean lines are paired with old world antique details. The collection is peppered with heavy doses of opulence, intricate layering and lavish color and depth.”
